Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thanksgiving: Expressing Gratitude

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

In this special Thanksgiving edition of Dessert Devotion, my cousin Brianna and I reflect on the many ways we can express gratitude as a spiritual practice in our everyday lives. Together, we make giant Crumbl-inspired cookies that will knock your socks off!

Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 ½ cups salted butter

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 ½ cup light brown sugar

2 eggs

1 ½ tbsp vanilla extract

4 ¼ cups all purpose flour

2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1 ½ cups chocolate chips

½ cup Heath or toffee chips

(Optional) sea salt to taste

Directions:

Beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until fluffy.  Then add two eggs and vanilla extract.  Slowly add the flour, baking soda, and baking powder just until blended. This will be a thick dough.  Stir in the chocolate chips and Heath chips by hand. Use an ice cream scooper to scoop about ½ cup balls of cookie dough onto the pan.  Bake six giant cookies per cookie sheet on 375 degrees for 10-11 minutes.  Allow the cookies to cool on the pan, then enjoy. Tastes like a Crumbl cookie!

Devotional:

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice always, pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Expressing gratitude is often not our human inclination. We often give more attention to what is ‘going wrong’ or what is lacking in our lives. Yet expressing gratitude is an important spiritual practice for believers. It helps us see where God is working. The practice of thanksgiving is the will of God for all of us. Reflect on practical ways that you can express gratitude with my cousin Nashville Newschannel 5 reporter Brianna Hamblin and I in the video.
