Devotional:
“In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.””
Luke 2:8-12 NRSV
The Gift of Peace
During the Christmas season, you will be tempted to give into stress and anxiety. You will be tempted to worry yourselves with gift lists, or budgets, or family demands, travel plans, end of year reports. Maybe you are already anticipating the problems of next year!
Whenever we ever go down the road of ‘worry’, remember to gaze upon that manger again, and be assured that you are loved and redeemed. God loves you enough to come to you in your need. Let that bring you peace. Receive the gift of peace, and know that whatever it is, you face it with the creator of the universe, the giver of eternal life, the miracle worker, and the author of second chances. This is the gift of peace. Amen.
