Easy Apple Pie

What Really Matters

Philippians 1:9-10

We are getting ready to take our last family trip of the summer to the Big Apple. And in honor of that, I thought I would share one of my son’s favorite pies—apple pie.

The temps are up all over the country, so this is a perfect dessert to eat a la mode that won’t keep you all day in the kitchen.

Easy Apple Pie

2 refrigerated pie crusts

2 (21 oz size) cans apple pie filling

2 tablespoons of butterscotch topping

1 tsp lemon juice

Directions:

Mix and pour into bottom pie crust in 9in pie pan.

Lattice top and brush with egg wash.  Bake on 425 for 40-45 minutes.

‭‭“This is my prayer: that your love might become even more and more rich with knowledge and all kinds of insight. I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ.”- Philippians 1:9-10

‭‭As believers we are called to make disciples and participate in God’s kingdom here and every corner of the earth.  It is our mission first and foremost, and that is what really matters.

Yet, have we really done our best to live out that mission even in our own homes, our own classrooms, our own workplaces? Let alone across the world!  It is so easy to take the people we see everyday for granted.  It is too easy to miss the opportunities to witness to them, to pray for them, to encourage them. It is so easy to focus on getting to work, getting to school, dashing to meetings or practices, and never really have any real conversations.

But take time to sit around the table with your family for a good meal, and a good dessert.  Slow down and listen to your friends and look them in the eye.  Offer prayer and love to your neighbors.  But remember, these practices take time.

Commit now to what really matters.  Commit now to where God is calling you to pour into and listen to and witness to those you see the most.  In the words of Paul, “I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ.”
