John 6:26-27
Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.”
Just the other day, I was reflecting on what Jesus has done for me just in the past week— or in the past few weeks. I had a laundry list of things that have just turned out… maybe things that I have worried about that Jesus has just worked out. I can think of the opportunities or doors that I hoped would be open, and this week they were opened! I also found myself just thanking God for the little things in life like paid bills, the discount on car repairs, the kids’ projects. When we read the sixth chapter of John, we must ask ourselves “why are we pursuing Jesus?” In chapter six of John, the crowds are following Jesus after he has performed one of his most famous miracles… the miracle of feeding the 5000. Understandably, after they had their fill of bread, many of them kept pursuing Jesus to his next location. For us, Jesus raises the question…are we following Jesus for the little things that we want, or are we pursuing Jesus because of who he is and what Jesus has called us to do?
